Technical Standards

There are certain personal qualifications all health care workers should possess, including good health, emotional stability, and an ability and desire to work with and help the sick and injured. Health care personnel must also be accurate, thorough, responsible, empathetic, versatile, and possess a willingness to keep abreast of new medical procedures and technical equipment. They must have an interest and aptitude for biological and physical sciences.

Regardless of the study you are undertaking you will be challenged academically. The challenges you face as a student will prepare you for practice in a variety of settings in a field where there is a high demand for your services.

Job Opportunities

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, more than eight million people work in health related occupations in the United States, and projected employment in this industry is expected to reach over eleven million by 2005. The majority of health care workers are employed in hospitals while the remainder are employed in clinics, laboratories, nursing homes, research institutes, public health services, mental health facilities, private medical practices, and pharmaceutical companies. Health related personnel are also employed by industry to administer basic health care and emergency first aid to workers, to inspect equipment and assure that safety measures are followed and to act as technical advisors and representatives in the manufacturing and marketing of medical equipment and supplies.

Faculty

The Faculty of the Allied Health Department has a strong commitment to students and make every effort to advise, teach, and help students in the classroom setting.
